As responsible business owners, we have hired local professionals out of our own pockets to help us move our business plan forward. These professionals include an engineering firm to help with our state-of-the-art water filtration system, our attorney to help us navigate the legal process, and a marketing firm to help us provide the community with the most up-to-date information we have in order to be honest, open and transparent with you, our neighbors.

We have learned there are people operating in the shadows who refuse to have dialog and are promoting misinformation and fear-mongering to try to defeat our appeal with petitions, GoFundMe fundraisers, and bashing the project in the NextDoor app.

We have been accused of hiding negative comments on our Facebook page because almost all of the comments on our page have been positive and supportive. We assure you we are hiding nothing on our owned pages. Instead of speaking with us in person or commenting where we might respond, our opponents prefer to talk among themselves. We see you.

We have also been accused of not being “willing to problem-solve” with our opponents who are suggesting “viable alternative locations.” I have made myself available by listing my cell phone number on our website, and I have had phone conversations with some people discussing various questions and concerns. I would be happy to continue to have a respectful dialog with anyone who has credible, comparable properties to discuss.

We invite your questions and your concerns so we can discuss together the economic benefit to the Carson Valley. We may not change your mind, and that’s OK, but let’s get this discussion out in the open and talk it out, like good neighbors.

We will be guests on the KKFT 99.1 FM Talk Radio Monica Jaye show Friday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. Please call into the show’s Studio Talk Line  &  Contest line 775-884-8000.

And, in that spirit, please post your questions and concerns on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/carsonvalleymeats/) so that we might respond. Let’s talk.

Here are more ways you can publicly speak your mind:

  1. Give public comment at the special meeting of the Douglas County Commissioners, Wednesday, November 13, at 1 p.m. at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Avenue in Minden.
  2. If you are unable to attend, please email a letter of support to cmadmin@douglasnv.us by Friday, November 1, citing the November 13 Special Meeting in the subject line. Letters sent after November 1 will be included in the supplemental information packets, but may not be read by commissioners prior to the meeting.
  3. Write a letter or email each of the five Commissioners in support of the project. (See below, or visit https://www.douglascountynv.gov/cms/one.aspx?portalid=12493103&pageid=12553208)
  4. Write a letter to the editor of the Record Courier, Kurt Hildebrand, at khildebrand@recordcourier.com, or complete the online form at https://www.recordcourier.com/contribute/letter-to-the-editor/.
  5. Call each commissioner to share your support.
