For the third year in a row, we would like to welcome back a wonderful sister and brother duo to our Ag & Artisan Holiday Faire! Kadence wows every year with her homemade goat milk soaps that come in a variety of scents and her brother James brings his animals along to talk about ag education- most famously Dale the Disappointing Duck. These two are rockstars in the agriculture community and we’re always honored to have them sell their products and inform our attendees about 4-H and ag education.
Goats, Chickens, Ducks, and Rabbits, oh my!
There is no shortage of animals in the Ortiz household! Both children are heavily involved in 4-H and Western Nevada Keystones, and they own a variety of chickens, ducks, rabbits, and goats. Kadence has been showing animals for about 9 years now, starting with chickens and now heavily focusing on her award-winning dairy goats. James started showing animals around the same time as his sister, starting with chickens as well and now focusing on dairy goats, market goats and poultry, and of course, his ducks.
James attends the Ag & Artisan Holiday Faire each year to show his animals, including Dale, and speak to attendees about his time in 4-H and agriculture. James loves the opportunity to share with others how awesome 4-H and Northern Nevada Keystones are for kids to work on their public speaking, leadership skills, and the ability to work with animals. This year for the first time he will also be selling a few of his 3D-printed creations!
Udderly Amazing Soaps
Kadence began selling goat milk soap to pay for her dairy goats and as a practical use for their goat milk, as Nevada laws do not allow the selling of goat milk. Kadence and her mom are self-taught soap makers, starting with YouTube tutorials (as we all do) and slowly perfecting the craft over the years.
This year, Kadence and her mom decided to add charcoal and essential oils to the soaps to provide benefits for your skin. Charcoal can help with eczema, and for all the ag people out there, it does a great job at removing odors from your hands. She has an abundance of scents, including lavender, citrus, and other creative aromas, and we are excited to have her products back again this year.
Kadence and James both have a deep love for agriculture and their animals and plan to be a part of local organizations as long as they can. We love supporting all the hardworking boys and girls in local agriculture and know we have a bright group of future educators and leaders in our community. Make sure to say hello to Kadence and James this year as they bring their talents and knowledge to the fair!
